Fitness can be intimidating, which is why people sometimes feel reluctant to take part in the weekly “boot camps” held by Topeka-based Omni Circle Group, says Danielle Martin.

“They see ‘boot camp’ and they don’t want to do it,” said Martin, a WIBW-TV reporter who also volunteers to serve as director of Omni Circle Group’s MOVE program.

But volunteers involved with MOVE, which stands for “mobility opportunities in various environments,” are working to make those boot camps less daunting by encouraging participants to work at their own pace, Martin said Saturday.

She took part in a Health & Wellness Family Fun Day event held in Topeka’s Central Park by Omni Circle Group, a nonprofit organization that works to unite and strengthen minority communities by focusing on personal and professional development.
